O Christ, The Master Carpenter, who at the last through wood and nails, purchased our salvation, wield well your tools in the workshop of the world, so that we, who come rough-hewn to your bench, may here be fashioned to a truer beauty by your hand. We ask this for your name and for your sake. Amen. – From the…
Lord God, Deliver us From a lazy mind, From a lukewarm heart, And an unwilling spirit, Which deaden our love for you. Give us a passionate, alive and joyful spirit, To boldly do whatever you command, To suffer whatever you call us to, To be eager to serve your holy love In all things. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.…
O Jesus, Light us up Bright inside! Drive darkness, From the depths of our hearts! Teach us: To know what is worth knowing, To love what is worth loving, To praise what is worth praising, To hate what should be reviled, To Prize what is precious, And above all, To seek and do your holy will. Amen. – Thomas a…
Gracious God, In this hour of anxiety I need your presence. As the operation draws near I need a staff on which to lean. To whom can I turn but you? I confess my weaknesses, sins, and shortcomings. Mercifully assure me of your forgiveness, In the work of Jesus Christ. I let go of any grudges, anger, or hatred. I…
Lord God, Amid our tears, We praise you gracious God, That you have received our loved one, In glory for eternity with You. We thank you that your love surrounds (name), That your angels surround (name), And that your arms enfold (name) in grace and peace! Comfort us now as we grieve. Enable us to let go and say “your…
Lord God, Without your promise I could not endure this sorrow. Only the promise of your presence Enables me to carry on in these lonely times. Only your grace preserves me as I mourn. Do not let me mourn without hope! You have taken care of me in the past, Now let me be carried in your mercy. Give me…
Eternal God, Who makes the winds and clouds obey, You protect the eagle in it’s flight, And the dove seeking safety. Uphold me as I soar above land and sea, Pilot my ship safely through the sky. Be with me at takeoff and landing, And let me not lose my way. Above all, Keep me in your grace, And let…
Although not strictly a prayer, these words frame prayer and are a prayerful call to enter into the journey of God’s presence. Set out! You were born for the road. Set out! You have a meeting to keep. Where? With whom? You’ll see. Set out! Your steps will be your words, The road your song, The weariness your prayers, And…
Lord, I commit my failures as well as my successes into your hands, and I bring for your healing the people and the situations, the wrongs and the hurts of the past. Give me courage, strength and generosity to let go and move on, leaving the past behind me, and living the present to the full. Lead me always to…
Lord Jesus, let me know myself and know You, And desire nothing but You. Let me forget myself and love You. Let me do everything for the sake of You. Let me humble myself and exalt You. Let me think nothing except You. Let me die to myself and live in You. Let me accept whatever happens as from You.…
Oh, Eternal One, it would be easier for me to pray if I were clear and of a single mind and a pure heart; if I could be done hiding from myself and from you, even in my prayers. But, I am who I am, mixture of motives and excuses, blur of memories, quiver of hopes, knot of fear,…
Christ be with us this day, Within us to purify us; Above us to draw us up; Beneath us to sustain us; Before us to lead us; Behind us to restrain us; Around us to protect us. – St Patrick 389-461AD
