The Prayer Of Jonah

In great trouble I called to you Lord,

And You answered me.

From the depths of the grave I called for help, and you listened to my cry.

And You answered me.

You threw me into the deep, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me.  I said, ‘I have been driven from your presence; but I will see your holy temple again.’

And You answered me.

The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head. To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath locked me in forever.

But you brought my life up from the pit, O Lord my God. When my life was slipping away I remembered you, Lord, my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple.

And You answered me.

Those who cling to worthless things miss the grace that could be theirs.  But with a song of thanksgiving, I will live for you.  I will keep my promise.  Salvation comes from the Lord alone.

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

As it was in the beginning is now and will be forever.

Amen.
