Leonine Evening Prayer

O Lord God,

Be present, and protect us

through the silent hours of the night,

So that we who are wearied

by the changes and chances of this fleeting world,

May rest upon your eternal changelessness.

– From the ‘Leonine Sacramentary’ (used from around 300-600AD). The oldest of the Latin liturgical books.  Named after Pope Leo I and was in use from the fourth to the seventh centuries.  It is a collection of prayers and rites, many of which are still used in some form in modern liturgy.
